Dr. Shay Baker is a doctorally prepared, double board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, licensed clinical social worker, licensed clinical addiction specialist, and certified nurse educator. She is the founder of THE Baggage Exchange, a personal development brand for women ready to release the weight that has been holding them back, as well as the owner of TheraPsych Behavioral Health & Wellness, a multistate psychiatric practice, and TheraPsych Institute, which trains the next generation of clinicians. Her journey began in the unlikeliest of places. She became pregnant at 13, chose to keep her baby, and the world believed her story had already been written. She has spent every year since rewriting it.

What sets Dr. Shay apart is that she has lived the experiences she now helps others overcome. She carried four babies through the NICU, including a daughter born 16 weeks premature, weighing just one pound, six ounces, whom she raised through cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and profound disability while earning degree after degree. She also experienced the loss of two sons during pregnancy and built her practice, her companies, and her family despite unimaginable hardship. From those experiences, she created THE Baggage Exchange and its signature four-step method: Claim It. Name It. Drop It. Leave It. Through her podcast, live events, retreats, and published works—including the guided journal "Please, Check Your Baggage"—she invites every woman she serves to release what no longer serves her, check her baggage, and journey lighter.

about the show

Behind every working business, movement, or system that changes lives, there is a sequence of decisions most people never see. The early risks. The turning points. The practical work that does not make headlines.

Impact Makers is a documentary-style TV series built around those stories. It follows the people who are actively building, not just talking about ideas, but putting them into practice in business, technology, education, health, and community development.

Each episode focuses on what was built, why it matters, and how it actually works in the real world. Not as theory, but as lived experience.

The series brings together founders, operators, and leaders who are shaping outcomes in their own spaces, showing how ideas become systems, and how systems begin to influence people, industries, and communities.

This is a platform for builders who are in motion, creating impact that can be seen, measured, and followed.
